Monclair Atelier
Lyon, France — Established 1898
-Founded in 1898 in Lyon, France, Monclair Atelier is known for producing handcrafted diamond jewelry for private collectors.
1898 — Lyon
Étienne Monclair opens a small workshop near the silk quarter, trained in the Parisian ateliers but drawn home to Lyon. His first clients are the city's silk merchant families, private, discreet, and exacting.
1934 — The Second Generation
Étienne's son, Marcel, refines the house's signature setting technique, a near-invisible clasp that remains, to this day, made entirely by hand.
1961 — A Single Focus
The house makes its defining decision: to stop producing rings, bracelets, and earrings, and to devote itself entirely to the diamond necklace. One object, pursued without compromise.
Today
Monclair Atelier remains headquartered in the same Lyon workshop, now led by the fourth generation of the family, still setting each stone by hand, still known to a small number of private collectors by name.
We have never advertised. Chances are, someone told you about us.
Named for the year our founder, Étienne Monclair, opened his first workshop off the Place Bellecour, L'Éclat de 1898 is the singular expression of everything the house has learned since. Each stone is hand-selected, each link hand-forged, each clasp fitted and refitted until it closes without a sound.
This is not a collection. It is one necklace, made again, one collector at a time.
Monclair Atelier does not sell online, and L'Éclat de 1898 is never displayed in a shop window. Each piece is presented privately in Lyon, or, for our collectors abroad, by private arrangement with one of our agents in Sandton.
